About the Internship Program
HME offers hands-on internship opportunities for students and early-career professionals looking to gain real-world experience in marine construction, dredging, heavy civil engineering, and project management. Interns will work alongside industry experts, skilled tradespeople, and project managers on active job sites, vessel operations, and office-based planning projects.
This program provides practical training, mentorship, and exposure to industry-leading projects, preparing interns for careers in marine infrastructure, safety, engineering, or project management.
Internship Tracks Available
- Field Operations Internship – Work on-site with construction and dredging crews, learning equipment operations and job site logistics.
- Project Management Internship – Assist in planning, scheduling, and managing marine infrastructure projects.
- Engineering Internship – Gain experience in marine construction engineering, including structural, geotechnical, and hydrographic elements.
- Safety & Compliance Internship – Learn about OSHA and USACE safety standards and risk management strategies.
- Equipment & Maintenance Internship – Work with heavy equipment technicians, learning diagnostics and maintenance of marine machinery.
Key Responsibilities (May Include):
- Support field operations, construction teams, and project managers on active job sites.
- Assist with surveying, project documentation, and technical reporting.
- Work on marine vessels, learning vessel operations and dredging logistics.
- Participate in safety briefings, job site inspections, and regulatory compliance training.
- Collaborate on engineering, logistics, and construction management tasks.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, including:
- Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering, Safety, Environmental Science, or related fields.
- Ability to work in field conditions, including marine job sites, construction environments, and vessel operations.
- Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn.
Preferred Certifications & Training (Not Required, but a Plus):
- OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Safety Training
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card
Technical & Tool Proficiency
- Intranet & Server Access – File management and safety document retrieval.
- Operating Systems – Proficient in Windows OS (desktop/laptop) and iOS/Android (mobile apps).
- Company Software & Communication Tools – ConnectTeams, Microsoft Teams, and mobile workforce management apps.
- Engineering & Survey Software (AutoCAD, Hypack, Trimble GPS) – Preferred for engineering and project-based internships.
