About the Position
HME is seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee safety compliance, crew training, and risk management for marine construction and industrial projects. The SSHO ensures OSHA, USACE EM 385-1-1, and client-specific safety protocols are enforced to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily safety inspections and risk assessments on active job sites.
- Enforce compliance with OSHA, USACE EM 385-1-1, and HME safety policies.
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and crew training sessions.
- Manage PPE distribution, procurement, and expense reporting for the Safety Department.
- Oversee incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Maintain documentation for audits, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinate site-specific safety plans, emergency response, and hazard mitigation protocols.
- Collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure regulatory adherence.
- Perform additional safety-related duties as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction or marine safety leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Health, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, USACE, EM 385-1-1, and state-specific safety regulations.
Preferred Certifications:
- OSHA 30-Hour Training
- USACE EM 385-1-1 40 Hour Training
- HAZWOPER 40-Hour Training
- USCG Approved First Aid/CPR
- Confined Space Entry & Rescue Training
- Fire Protection Training
- OSHA 510
- OSHA 500
- TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card (Required for access to secure maritime facilities).
- Boater’s Card (State-specific license for marine operations).
